ACTR Contemporary Russia Program. Summary. While events in Russia since the 1. Soviet Union have often filled headlines and captured the attention of western observes, few have a full understanding of their meaning, their causes, and their larger social and historical contexts. This four- week program is designed to give undergraduates, graduate students, and working professionals new insights into Russia today. Through readings and intensive coursework in the form of lectures, seminars, and discussions conducted with faculty of Moscow State University, program participants gain a fuller understanding of the complex factors that have shaped Russia. All content courses are conducted in English. In addition, participants complete five hours per week of Russian language instruction. Customized to the individual needs of each participant, the Russian Heritage Speakers Program serves students who grew up speaking Russian at home or with family and wish to strengthen their language skills.
